We enjoyed our meeting at Pens of Praise Christian Writers last night, especially because of Kathy Leist’s offering of BARA BRITH (SPECKLED BREAD) the recipe found in our latest Pens Readers novel of choice. The Lacemaker by Laura Frantz was so deeply thrilling to those of us who joined in the read this time around. Kathy’s appreciation of the novel and the recipes tucked inside spilled over into baking this special treat for our Pens meeting “Three Months of Four” by yours truly! I have posted the teaching on www.susanmarlene.com.

So delighted by this! Can't thank you and Kathy enough for the wonderful recipe offering straight out of Ty Mawr's kitchen! You are actually the first that I've heard made it :) Double kudos on that! Thank you for taking time to read TL and for crafting this lovely post. That plate is gorgeous, too!

I loved how you used this bread throughout the novel! I wanted to try it but Kathy is AMAZING in the kitchen! We chuckled that we didn't have the Fairy Butter but none of us were willing to churn the butter! LOL! This was so delish! If you wish to use the photo for any promotion-- you may! We so enjoyed this book for our Pens Readers! "The Lacemaker" is a favorite! :) I will let Kathy know how very pleased you are that she made the bread! Blessings to you and yours!

This bread looks so great! I didn't get a good look at it while attending the meeting via facetime. Good thing. If I would have smelled it, I would have been drooling. I'll have to try it, too. Yummy!! I had a visual of the bread all through the book which made the story all the more real to me. An awesome read for sure!!

Oh Rebecca!! You have that right! I taught the lesson and couldn't eat the bread right away--while others enjoyed! Talk about suffering! LOL! It was positively something that you would love! I'm ever so glad to see your happy face at our meetings--even via FaceTime! :)

Thank you for the kind comments on the Welsh Bara Brith bread (It's actually Brith, not Birth. However, you could say that I gave 'birth" to the Brith! I added quite a bit more flour as the dough was 'soupy' to start with. The extra flour added to the flavorful denseness of the loaf. 10/23/2018 03:13:40 pm
LOL! Thank you Kathy! I shall rectify the "ir" to a "ri" and the Bara Brith will be well and fine once more! I'm thankful for your keen eye as well as your humor! Thank you for the excellent tip to help others with this recipe! :) You do make me laugh with a grateful heart! <3
