“Sisters & Friends is a joyful celebration of faith, family, romance, and God's delight in all the little details.”
~ Laura Frantz, Christy Award-winning author of The Lacemaker
With highest praise for Sisters and Friends, this book will knock you over almost as quickly as a very large dog. So be ready for anything. Susan Marlene brings together all the right answers in some of the most unexpected places. This story is a journey of the heart, discovering what can be accomplished when you keep your chin up and find faith from within.
~ Kate Jungwirth, co-author of the Mystery at Point Beach series
Moving back home with a critical, over-controlling mother, fostering a massive out-of-control puppy (when you hate dogs), doing a face plant in front of a man with molten green-brown eyes… In Sisters & Friends, Susan Marlene masterfully employs a technique used by all great writers—put your character in a bad place, then make it worse, and worse—to keep us turning pages. Susan’s debut novel will have you hurting, rooting for, and rejoicing with heroine Courtney MacDuff.
~Becky Melby, author of more than 20 Christian fiction titles
“In Sisters and Friends, Susan Marlene skillfully weaves together the threads of lives and hearts to give us a tapestry of faith and family I did not want to let go. Beautifully written!”
~Regina Scott, award-winning author of Nothing Short of Wondrous
Sisters love and fuss, embrace and argue, support and question. But above all they love!
~ DiAnn Mills, author of Long Walk Home eBook, Christy Winner, Director- Blue Ridge Mountains Christian Writers Conference
Susan Marlene’s debut novel, Sisters and Friends, is a story about relationships. Daughters, mothers, sisters, and friends harbor tender feelings, intricate, yet at the same time volatile. Susan Marlene’s characters are true to life and grow dear to the heart. Unexpected twists and turns keep the pages turning. The heroine’s love-hate relationship with her Leonberger dog kept me smiling—and wondering what would happen next. Even the hero’s intentions kept me guessing. I hoped for future possibilities, but was unsure until the story’s conclusion. Susan Marlene’s ability to weave beautiful description coupled with emotion has me yearning for her next book.
~Rebecca McLafferty, author of the debut novel, Intentional Heirs

This beautiful girl is the original Puddles from my novel SISTERS & FRIENDS!
Her name was Porschea, and she was every bit as adorable as her
presence in SISTERS & FRIENDS, Hearts Forever Faithful!
Though I appreciate these modern times, I long for the simplicity and general goodwill from days gone by. Times when doors and windows could remain unlocked. When neighbors sat together on porch steps or at kitchen tables with one another to share coffee or ice tea, pie, and laughter.
Remember the Norman Rockwell magazine covers? Those innocent yet humorous depictions of everyday simplicity and wholesome home life. I favor clean winsome movies and novels filled with hope, joy, and triumph. I dare to believe that excellent values and purity have not vanished from our hearts or experience or desires.
Will you dare to believe and celebrate that exceptional lifestyles and relationships can be cherished and experienced in this day and time? For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. Proverbs 23:7a. Just what can we think up and believe in for our futures, families, and for our precious nation? Are you excited? I am. I appreciate that you stopped in to visit me today!

Freedom to Love Beauty
Your breath catches as you walk into a room. Not because the decor is lavish and rich or the abundance of friendly faces awaited your entrance. Emotionally, you’d been squashed by a steamroller of negativity or anger just before you arrived. Simply put—you anticipate more of the same.
Maybe you can relate to that scenario or maybe you are thinking of someone that this description fits. A sweet individual who doesn’t deserve the critical person they are with? You may ask, “Is this just the way life plays out? Or is there more available?” Can people enjoy the liberating freedom of positive thoughts, joy, and the company of other imperfect human beings?
Yes! When inspecting our experiences and those of significant people in our family, friends, work places, or neighborhoods we may be given to doubt that is possible. And it is impossible as long as we place our worth and emotional security in the hands of naysayers and critics. But hang on! There is a way to move past such influence and it depends upon yourself. Is it easy? Of course not! But the effort is worth every challenge and believe it or not—you are worth it too!
“Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.” Keeping your grade, record, or confidence takes effort. This is not time to sit-on-the-couch and spin sorrowful tales, while feeding your mind with useless programs on the television. Seize the day, take up the gauntlet with diligence, which is relentless and intentional and the reward is life. Oh, I’ll take that, how about you!
Don’t forget, “The Lord your God is in your midst, A victorious warrior. He will exult over you with joy, He will be quiet in His love, He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy.” There is nothing quiet about His declaration over you. I like the Lord shouting for joy over me. Let’s allow His promises to cover over the fear and control others may try to rule us with. Let the King of Glory in and rejoice for His love is precious and yours for the taking…choose and follow Him and enjoy the freedom to love beauty!
